In a two-hour raid over Cheltenham on December 11th, 1940 many houses were demolished with resulting casualties and fatalities. A gasometer was also blown up at the junction of Gloucester Road and the High Street. This picture shows the aftermath in Stoneville Street with several YMCA rescue workers on hand. A YMCA tea van can also be clearly seen back right on the picture above. It was never clear whether the raid was intended on the town.
